Your kids are off from school, time to make…..Miss Melissa’s Summer Sensory Inventions:

FLOAM

Ingredients:
2 tsp of Borax
1/4 cup of Elmer’s Glue
1/3 cups of Polystyrene Beads (bean bag filler)
3/4 cups of Water
Instructions:
In a bowl combine 2 teaspoons of borax with 1/2 cup of very warm water.
Mix until the borax is dissolved.
In a separate bowl combine 1/4 cup of Elmer’s glue with 1/4 cup of water. Add tempera powder if color is desired or food coloring.
Once the ingredients of both bowls are dissolved pour everything into a ziplock bag (glue mixture, borax mixture, and polystyrene beads).
Seal the bag and shake until everything is combined.
Dump out and PLAY!

  • Teaches kids the importance of following a recipe *If they don’t follow the directions correctly, it won’t turn out correctly
  • Improves sensory processing specifically if your child has difficulty interacting with messy textures.
  • Establishes fine motor skills especially stirring all those ingredients!
  • Utilize it as a calming strategy
  • Have fun and enjoy the experience of making FLOAM 🙂
