What do Speech-Language Pathologists do?
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are experts in communication. They work with people of all ages, from babies to adults. Speech-language pathologists assess, diagnose, treat and help prevent disorders. Speech therapy addresses speech sound errors, language, social communication, voice, fluency, cognitive communication, as well as feeding and swallowing difficulties. Treatment plans are tailored to meet the needs of both the client and caregiver or family. In addition, our SLPs collaborate with our multidisciplinary team.
Hearing and speech are closely related
For this reason, it is recommended that a hearing screening be completed within the last year prior to being seen for an Speech Language Pathology evaluation. This screening can be completed at the doctor’s office, at a school or by an audiologist.
