Group Leader, Casey, talks about the Staying Calm and Alert Group:

“Group members will work together to learn how to monitor, maintain, and change their level of alertness.  The purpose of this group is to build interaction skills while helping kids understand their personal arousal states, and how an optimal state translates to a calm and alert mind.  Through games, projects and group interactions, kids will identify personal levels of alertness, experiment with sensory based strategies to learn about the effect on levels of alertness and build a list of ideas that they can use.  By teaching a framework for self regulation, this group provides both parents and kids strategies and language to take the skills learned in group and use them at home.”

Children ages 8-13 who have trouble sustaining attention, completing tasks, and transitioning between activities will gain skills in this group to help them self regulate. The Staying Calm and Alert Social Skills group will be led on Tuesdays by Occupational Therapists from 4:15- 5:00 PM for 8 sessions  (1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15).
