Social Skills For Ages 8-13 ~ Mondays 4:00-5:00 pm

This group focuses on  friendship, reducing anxiety, improving ability to manage feelings of frustration, and building confidence. Lessons and hands on activities help participants practice self reflection, self management, and social skills. This group may be covered by health insurance and requires an initial assessment for participants new to the clinic.  8 sessions (4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23)

TUESDAYS

Kindergarten Readiness Group For Ages 3-5 ~ Tuesdays 1:00-1:45 pm

This group is for children who are preparing to enter kindergarten in the Fall of 2016. It will  provide a jumpstart into the world of kindergarten, including a focus on participating in classroom routines, communication skills, fine motor skills, early academic skills and social skills.  This occupational therapy group may be covered by health insurance and may require an initial OT assessment for participants new to the clinic 8 sessions (4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26,5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24)

 

Staying Calm and Alert OT Social Skills For Ages 8-13 ~ Tuesdays 4:15-5:00 pm

Group members learn to recognize levels of alertness to get themselves to that calm, alert state that facilitates learning, sustained attention, completion of tasks, and smooth transitions. Participants work together to explore self regulation strategies and practice using them. This group provides parents with strategies and language to help with communicating about self regulation. This occupational therapy group may be covered by health insurance and may require an initial OT assessment for participants new to the clinic. 8 sessions (4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24)

 

Growing Eaters Group For Ages 3-6 ~ Tuesdays 5:15- 6:15 pm

This group is designed for children with both sensory and oral motor feeding needs to help improve skills and increase acceptance of age appropriate foods. Through the use of a predictable routine and positive peer interactions, the group will explore opportunities to accept new  foods for an expanding diet. Basic chewing and swallowing skills will be targeted to establish a safe swallow of all textures and reduce anxiety around feeding. This group requires an initial SLP/OT assessment for participants new to the clinic.The initial assessment may be covered by insurance. The group sessions are non-insurance billable. 8 sessions (4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24)

 

WEDNESDAYS

Sensory Play Social Skills For Ages 5-7 ~ Wednesdays 4-5 pm

This group is geared towards children who need support with peer interaction, focusing on positive social behavior and social communication skills. Games, sensory based activities, and play are used to teach social skills. Emphasis is placed on playing with peers, learning how to enter and exit play, problem solving, taking turns, and cooperation. This group may be covered by health insurance and requires an initial assessment for participants new to the clinic. 8 sessions (4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 5/25)

Meet and Greet Social Skills For Ages 14-18 ~ Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15 pm

This teen group builds social connections and communication skills. Topics may include how to handle increased independence, bullying, and peer pressure. Individual group member concerns will also be addressed. Groups are built around an activity to create a relaxed environment to encourage open discussion of topics and to build age appropriate social interaction skills. This group may be covered by health insurance and requires an initial assessment for participants new to the clinic. 8 sessions (4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 5/25)

 

Parent Education Group for Social Skills Participants ~ Wednesday 6/1/16 from 5-6 pm

This group is recommended for parents of all social skills group participants. The focus of this educational session will be helping parents understand the information that children learn in social skills groups and how to help carry  techniques over into day to day practice at home. Parents will learn how to support their children in gaining social skills. Parent education groups are not insurance billable. Limited to 10 participants.
